University of Arkansas System President Donald R. Bobbitt has selected a Kentucky academic leader as the new director of the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts.Corey Alderdice is assistant director for admissions and public relations at the Gatton Academy of Mathematics.

Insurance Agent Found Guilty

A local insurance agent was found guilty of insurance fraud and theft Wednesday evening after a two-day trial in Garland County Circuit Court and fined $40,000.Tracy Eugene White, 51, owner of White Insurance Agency, located at 814 Higdon Ferry Road, was found guilty of two counts of theft of property as well as other charges.

Suspect Sought

The Benton Police Department (BPD) has identified an aggravated assault suspect but needs help finding him. Kenneth Wayne Janski, 43, is wanted for an incident that happened at a home in the city on Mother’s Day. The BPD says the victim is a female acquaintance of Janski’s, but did not say exactly what happened to her. Janski is believed to be in Central Arkansas area, specifically Hot Springs or Cabot. Anyone with information about where to find Janski is urged to call Benton Police at (501) 778‑1171 or (501) 315-TIPS.

Coalition to Preserve Arkansas Values Opposes Pot

The Coalition to Preserve Arkansas Values said it also opposes a proposed initiated act to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes in the state. The coalition is comprised of the Arkansas Family Coalition, Families First Action Committee, Family Council Action Committee and the Arkansas Committee for Ethics Policy, a companion organization to the Arkansas Faith and Ethics Council.

Occupiers Arrested

Police arrested four members of Occupy Little Rock as the city evicted the group from its protest site in downtown Little Rock yesterday. Officers made the arrests shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday — nearly seven hours after the group’s permit expired.

Byrum Hurst says that Hurst has resolved $25,550 in state liens filed against him and is working to resolve a $32,730 federal lien stemming from unpaid income taxes.However, the state liens still show up in Department of Finance and Administration.
